The District of Coquitlam had an existing Olympic-quality track and a soccer/football field and berms for casual seating. With less than a year to the 1991 B.C. Summer Games, GENIVAR was retained to prepare a design study for a grandstand, concession and main gate. The planning of the site was carefully studied and several options for the master plan, as well as for the grandstand structure, were reviewed. The fabric option for the roof was strongly supported and GENIVAR was retained to prepare contract documents. The grandstand has been enthusiastically received both as a spectator facility and as a focal point for the park. The fabric is self-cleaning and the structure is low maintenance. The seating is built on a gentle rake to conform to an existing berm. It has a low profile and is easy for families to negotiate.
