Site Planning Schematic Design Contract Documents Tendering Construction Administration
The City of Guelph selected GENIVAR/PBK Architects Inc. to prepare a schematic design for a multi-use complex incorporating twin ice pads, restaurant/lounge facilities, leisure pool and aquatic centre, fitness centre, gymnasium, community multi-purpose rooms, branch library and fire hall. GENIVAR/PBK explored master site plan options incorporating an existing water retention pond and wood lot in the various options. The 100,000 sq. ft. facility has parking for approximately 350 cars. The preferred site plan option organizes the program elements around a central landscaped driving court, which could be closed off for outdoor events. This scheme was developed in such a way as to minimize interruption for day to day user activities when special events/tournaments are in progress. The site has been placed in such a way as to anchor potential commercial development to the south.
