Description

The City of Waterloo required a twinning of an existing arena facility to meet the recreational needs of the community. The design was developed, using the full public process, by a project team of 14 staff, council members, user groups and local residents. The result was a facility which is unique and suitable to all user groups. This was accomplished despite difficult site restrictions and extensive renovations to the existing facility. The new features include:

  • An increase from 250 to 650 seating for twin pad ice surfaces.
  • An attractive fully glazed lobby and entrance area.
  • Upgraded library facilities.
  • Skylights over the new ice surface providing natural light during daytime use.
  • Paved parking for 200 vehicles.
  • Wheelchair accessible elevator.
