EHG's full range of services for water systems (see Table) has been used to assess entire systems in order to identify required upgrades:

Treatment Plant Hydraulics
Managing the many interconnected hydraulic processes in a typical treatment plant requires up-to-date information linked to a computerized process model such as EHG's PLANT. Our staff have provided timely, accurate steady-state and/or dynamic (starts and stops) hydraulic models to both the public and private sectors.

Field Measurements
Field measurements are used by EHG staff to:

• Verify the performance of pipe systems by testing for leakage or groundwater intrusion.

• Confirm sewer capacity to support planning for infill developments in built-up areas

• Validate computer models of plant effluent dispersion, river confluence mixing, etc...

Demand forecasts complement the information required to manage these systems. Specialized analyses focus on specific problems such as system pressure improvements, fire protection, new water supply & storage facilities, pumping stations and transmission lines or canals.

• Optimize plant operations using an up-to-date hydraulic process model running on a PC
• Maximize reservoir mixing based on computer/physical models (chlorination, dosing, etc.)
• Reduce transient pressure shocks from pump starts & stops using a waterhammer model

• Incorporate staff and consultant input into plant operations manuals and limit liabilities

• Ensure continued operation of hydraulic structures: syphons, deep crossings, chutes, etc...
• Keep system pressure high enough for fire fighting / surcharge lower than basement levels
• Infrastructure management of pipe networks to minimize leaks/groundwater intrusion

• Site storage for uninterrupted service & surge control during power failures or brown-outs

• Ensure continued operations during flood and drought periods

• Improve outfall dispersion using diffuses designed using computer and/or physical models

• Demand management: demand forecasting model, water conservation & leak detection

• Optimize drinking water / wastewater effluent quality to meet regulatory targets
